Based in our global design centre in Shah Alam Malaysia you will be part of a small team responsible for the development and support of electronic-based wiring device products.
This team is part of a global engineering team responsible for a wide range of BS and VDE standard wiring devices products sold into multiple markets around the world under the MK Electric and Peha brands.
The main role involves the design and ongoing engineering support of the electronics products.
You will be involved in the development of new products via both in house design and supporting buy-to-sell and external sub-contract design projects as well as the ongoing support and maintenance of those products throughout their life cycle.
Job Scope & Main Responsibilities
Design and development of electronic wiring device products working closely with global cross-functional product engineering and mechanical design teams. This will involve both in house design and the need to manage, guide and review third party sub-contract design agencies to ensure designs meet our specification and requirements.
Support and maintenance of existing designs to ensure their ongoing performance, reliability and availability in manufacture.
Provide component sourcing and selection engineering support to ensure that all component and quality issues are dealt with promptly and efficiently to facilitate a smooth uninterrupted manufacturing process.
Creation and maintenance of product design documentation.
You will be expected to keep up to date with appropriate technology and application developments relevant to our products and produce rapid prototypes for technology demonstrators and ‘proof of concept’ evaluation.
Drive and support Technology Development and Value Engineering projects where required.
To provide technical support where required on customer field issues and returns issues.
Higher education degree level qualification in Electronic Engineering or relevant engineering science.
Skills, experience and behaviors required:
At least 2 years’ experience of working in a product development environment with a structured development process.
Ability to manage and control 3rd party sub-contract design resources to facilitate the delivery of electronic designs on time and cost and which meet required specification requirements.
Able to conduct detailed and robust design reviews to identify and eliminate issues during the design process.
Able to plan, document and implement robust unit and integration testing to establish and validate product performance during development and in production.
Able to understand and evaluate technology patents.
A minimum of 4 years’ experience of working in an electronics design role with knowledge and experience in the following areas
Analogue and power electronics background covering;
Switch mode power supplies up to 30W
Electronic and electro-mechanical switching of AC mains for load control
Analogue power control of mains voltages (ideally with application in lighting control/dimming)
Understanding the development of real-time embedded firmware based products using 8 and 16 bit PICs and Microprocessors for consumer products and their associated user interfaces
An awareness of Cyber Security, threats and potential countermeasures
Component engineering skills to source, select and validate performance with multi-sourced parts.
Ability to analyze existing designs to identify performance and cost improvement opportunities.
An understanding of electronic manufacturing assembly and test practices.
Have good communication skills.
Knowledge of Safety and EMC standards relating to electronic wiring devices.
Capable of working with low levels of supervision.
Have good commercial awareness.
A working understanding of risk assessment and problem-solving tools (e.g. Six Sigma) and their application
Must be willing and able to travel overseas for up to 2 short duration trips per year.
