Job description
  • The Database Administrator Manager shall be responsible for managing a team of DBA professionals, providing leadership in maintaining current database systems, troubleshooting issues, designing new databases, ensuring database availability, ensuring data integrity, implementing database changes, managing security, and providing on-call support.
  • Manages day-to-day operations of database servers, jobs, monitoring and alerts to maximize uptime in the most cost-effective way.
  • Raises risks, issues, and exceptions; devise clear mitigation strategies; follow-through to resolution.
  • Perform at or above the enterprise's Information Technology performance standards.
  • Establishes guidelines to monitor DB systems performance and ensure service stability; tracks progress and report on status of systems operations as well as infrastructure capacity, integrity, and availability.
  • Trains and develops technical support and applications staff to better utilize on-line processing databases and the enterprise's computing environment.
  • Provides and designs tools to assist in the management of the database and transaction processing environment.
  • Works to provide a working model of our transaction processing environment for capacity assessment and planning.
  • Develops a methodology for the ongoing assessment of database performance and the identification of problem areas.
  • Develops a security scheme for the database environment, as well as assisting in disaster recovery if necessary.
  • Provides leadership during the development and enhancement of the enterprise's production applications including working with applications, technical support and operations during the design, development and implementation of applications.
  • Recognizes and identifies potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future business expansion.
  • Fulfills departmental requirements in terms of providing work coverage and administrative notification during periods of personnel illness, vacation, or education.
  • Participates with vendors in the assessment of advanced transaction processing and database productions including beta and field test participation
  • Contribute to the plan and executions of the operational budgets; develops creative approaches for reducing operational costs and total cost of ownership while improving overall operations efficiency.
  • Works with multiple stakeholders to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective database technology solutions.
  • Develops, implements, communicates, and enforces IT policies, procedures, and process improvements.
  • Researches emerging trends and new technologies to identify potential improvements; develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT database related spending and initiatives.
  • Special projects as requested

Job requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree: in Finance, Business, Information Management/Information Technology, Mathematics, Engineering or equivalent field or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-9 years Successful experience in building Technology Infrastructure and Operational environments.
  • Three (3) years managing a DBA team
  • Ten (10) years experience with Microsoft SQL Server
  • Five (5) years experience with replication, and query optimization and tuning
  • Ability to write and troubleshoot queries in T-SQL
  • Experience with large-scale, complex database environments
  • Five (5) years experience in financial services with specific experience with data privacy regulations including GLBA and with regulatory guidance entities such as the FFIEC.
  • Excellent problem solving, decision making, and prioritization skills balancing multiple demands in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to effectively and confidently communicate complex concepts in speaking and writing with team members and all levels of technical and nontechnical customer stakeholders
  • Ability to create diagrams, policies, procedures, presentations, etc., as needed for day-to-day management as well as read blueprints/schematics, etc. as needed for planning/issue remediation
  • Experience managing vendors, installation teams, removal teams, and property requirements
  • Excellent attention to detail, quality, and follow-through; commitment to continuous improvement and the elimination of performance variability
  • Ability to think analytically and independently, providing the thought leadership necessary to introduce incremental and evolutionary change
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing requirements with a flexible and creative approach to brainstorming, troubleshooting, and problem solving
  • Well-rounded and advanced knowledge and skills across networks, servers, databases, cloud services, security, and other related disciplines
  • Knowledge of systems architectures and information security practices
  • Ability to work under high pressure situations calmly
  • Strong and efficient problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job function
