Job Description

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Management

  • Manage and oversee the activities of the data scientists and data analysts, ensuring proper execution of their duties, and alignment of activities with business’s overall vision and objectives.
  • Manage the roll out of Big Data capabilities, consumer initiatives, analytic framework, and best practices within the Data Science andAnalytics department and the larger Data Science andAnalytics community within the Bank.

2. Analytics

  • Gather and understand business requirements through engagements with business units in the Bank and translate it into a feasible data science proof-of-concept project with clearly defined goals, success metrics, and validation steps.
  • Provide direction and technical guidance to the Prototyping Unit on project/research designs, methods, models, and articulate its benefits and trade-offs to maintain quality delivery of work.
  • Design and strategise research plans and its components to be communicated and delegated to subordinates to deliver data science & analytics proof-of-concepts.
  • Apply advanced statistical capabilities and delivers statistical models to achieve goals of data science projects as well as activities such as designing a sound project / research methodology, building strategies to track and evaluate result metrics, and validation created models.
  • Conduct research, design, implementation, and validation of cutting-edge algorithms in order to analyse diverse data sources in order to enable desired business outcomes in diverse fronts.
  • Refine and prepare reports and presentation on outcome of data science and analytics projects, as well as communicating these outcomes to the business.

3. Strategy:

  • Strategise and manage the formulation of new and creative ideas for leveraging the business’s vast collection of data in the databases.
  • Manage the development and implementation of the state-of-the-art analytical algorithms for anomaly detection, forecasting, and classification.
  • Model complex discovering insights and identify business opportunities through the use of algorithmic, statistical, visualization, and mining techniques.
  • Translate business requirements into prototypes and enable the development of big data capabilities, frameworks, and governance processes. 4. Collaboration
  • Works closely with the data scientists and data analysts in leading data science proof-of-concepts and developing improved analytics and models through code sharing, deliberation on methods and models, and communication of project status and any roadblocks.
  • Work with data engineers in the Productionising Unit to provide requirements, model specification, and data scope to scale up successful proof-of-concepts
  • Work with senior management and key stakeholders in identifying and prioritizing actionable, impactful insights across a variety of core business fronts, driving informed decision-making across the business. 5. Knowledge:
  • Keep up to date and provide insights to the Data Science and Analytics Unit and the larger Data Science and Analytics community in the Bank on leading data science and analytic practices, trends, design, learning and development cycles

CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS

  • Strong leadership skills with proven track record of at least 5 years working in high caliber data science teams developing production grade data solutions in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong project and people management skills
  • Adept at problem solving using both textbook methods and novel viewpoints as well as translating business problems into actionable data science analytics projects.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, SQL and Java (Python & SQL is a must)
  • Solid understanding of probability, statistics, distributions, and analysis methods.
  • Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, Decision Trees, and Neural Networks. Strong familiarity with popular machine learning frameworks such as Tensorflow, Scikit-learn, and PyTorch is a plus.
  • Data visualization using one or more packages such as Tableau, Weka or D3.
  • Preferably familiar with Big Data applications/solutions such as Hadoop, Spark, MongoDB, ElasticSearch, Kibana, etc
  • Familiarity in Natural Language Processing, Graph and Network Analysis is a plus

  • Ability to translate and plan proof-of-concepts into more robust, production-ready solutions.

  • Capable of effective presentation and communication of technical findings to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to build effective partnerships, harvest synergies and leverage on overlapping work streams to drive forward the data analytics and data science agenda
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE :
Academic Qualifications
: Quantitative degree in Statistics, Economics, Computer Science/Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science or equivalent.
Knowledge: Excellent understanding of statistical and technical methods, and knowledge in data management, visualisation and machine learning.
Experience: Minimum 5 years prior experience in data analytics and data science or related field

  • Skilled in data visualisation tools (e.g. Tableau, D3)
  • Skilled in end-to-end data science workflow from data sourcing, wrangling, modelling, evaluation, and deployment
